The Future of The Podcasts

Hey all,

On Sunday, Chris and I attempted to upload the podcast as soon as we wrapped up the show. As you all know by now, the podcast is always uploaded immediately after the end of the live show. When we could not connect to MyPodcast.com, we didn't think much of it. We figured the website was down for maintenance and would be up and running shortly there after. The day went by, and the site did not return.

I was shocked when on Monday afternoon, Chris sent me a text message informing me that the site was down for good. After looking into it further, I can confirm that MyPodcast.com has, in essence, gone out of business and will no longer operate. We are truly saddened to see that the site is no longer available for use. We have been with MyPodcast since day one of the show, and we always found it to be a great service to not only us, but to you as well.

Unfortunately, MyPodcast is not the only podcast hosting site that has gone out of business after offering a free, unlimited service. Slowly, these sites are fading away, leaving us with very little options. Chris and I have both looked into alternatives, and for now, we want to fill you all in with what is happening:

Over the course of the last 5 years, NYI FYI has seen growth. As of now, there are no websites that can accommodate our needs for free. We would not be able to archive the shows for more than a month, and the bandwidth being offered simply is not enough. Over the course of the last year or so, there has been a lot of money invested in keeping the show alive. Unfortunately, the show is not seeing a return on its investment, so we simply can't afford to pay for a website that can keep the podcast going.

However, we can and will continue to record and broadcast shows live through UStream. Slowly but surely, more and more people have come on board and joined us for the live shows, which is something that we are thrilled about. That being said, there is a chance that the show will make a transition to strictly being a web television series. We apologize to those who looked forward to the podcasts and enjoyed listening to them in the car and at work. Like we said before, we can't afford to put more money into it, and at the same time, we don't want to start charging membership fees so that people can listen to the show. That is not what we stand for, and not at all what we have in mind.

This change is something that was harsh and came without warning. Had we known about this a few weeks ago, we may have had more time to plan and have an alternative ready to go. Right now, we are trying to figure out what we can do to get the show back to normal. As always, your feedback is always appreciated, and we would love to hear from you all in regards to our current situation. If you have any questions, comments, ideas, etc, please feel free to share them below.

We don't want you to worry. NYI FYI is still alive, and we will be back on Sunday Morning at 11 AM EST, live on UStream. Thank you all for your patience and understanding in this matter.
